Grigorios Arkoumanis
Research Assistant (University of Vienna), Doctoral Researcher (University of Thessaly)
I am a PhD candidate at the Department of Primary Education, University of Thessaly. My doctoral research examines digital inequalities in education and their impact on social mobility, with particular emphasis on the role of educational policy and the integration of technology in schools.
I am currently working as a Research Assistant (project-based contract) at the Department of Communication, University of Vienna, where I participate in European research projects (Erasmus+, Horizon) focusing on education, media, and communication.
I hold a BA (Hons) in Social Anthropology and History from the University of the Aegean, as well as two Master’s degrees: an MA in Crisis and Historical Change (University of the Aegean) and an MA in International Relations (University of York, United Kingdom). In parallel, I am completing an MSc in Instructional Design for Online/Distance Education, a joint program offered by the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and the University of the Aegean.
My research interests lie in the Sociology and Anthropology of Education, educational policy in Greece and the European Union, digital learning, social and digital inequalities, and their relationship with social mobility.
I have published my work in international peer-reviewed journals such as Cambridge Journal of Education, Computers in the Schools, and Policy Futures in Education, and have presented my research at major international and national conferences (ECER, CESE, ISATT, IPiE, ETPE, Panhellenic Conference on the Sociology of Education). I am an active member of academic associations (International Study Association on Teachers & Teaching, Hellenic Scientific Association for Information and Communication Technologies in Education) and research laboratories, including the Laboratory of Sociology of Education at the University of Thessaly, Media Governance and Industries Research Lab at the University of Vienna and the Laboratory of Informatics at the Department of Primary Education, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.
