Key Goals

LibCommon aims to stimulate innovative learning and teaching practices in HE by creating new partnerships with libraries as a commons-based resource and learning hub. This partnership between formal and non-formal education can greatly contribute to students acquiring essential competencies for today’s complex society such as civic engagement, participatory citizenship, intercultural and intergenerational skills, openness to lifelong learning, critical thinking and digital competences.

  • Foster innovative teaching and learning by positioning libraries as active educational hubs.
  • Enhance civic engagement and democratic participation through collaborative programs.
  • Encourage lifelong learning and digital literacy to equip students with 21st-century skills.
  • Strengthen university-library cooperation to create inclusive learning environments.

Work Packages (WPs)

  1. WP1 – Project Management: Coordination, monitoring, and quality control.
  2. WP2 – Theoretical Framework & Policy Making: Establishing guidelines and policy recommendations.
  3. WP3 – Best Practices through Familiarisation (FAM) Trips: Study visits to leading libraries across Europe.
  4. WP4 – Training the Trainers: Equipping educators and librarians with skills for commons-based learning.
  5. WP5 – Short Blended Learning Course: Developing digital and hands-on learning modules.

Key Activities

  • Develop a theoretical and policy framework for commons-based education.
  • Organize study trips to leading libraries across Europe.
  • Create and deliver training programs for librarians, educators, and students.
  • Design a digital learning platform to support blended and peer-to-peer education.
  • Engage local communities through participatory learning initiatives.

Expected Outcomes

  • A new model for libraries as learning commons, integrating formal and non-formal education.
  • Enhanced digital and civic literacy among students and educators.
